Folded Petals Card

World Card Making Day began in 2006 as National Card Making Day. Founded by Paper Crafts magazine to bring card makers together at the beginning of the busiest card-making season of the year, it was first held on October 7, 2006. The initial celebration involved the Paper Crafts magazine audience only; however, due to the positive response it received and the worldwide popularity of card making, the holiday became known as World Card Making Day from then on.

Today’s card features and idea for “Simple Embellishments”  These embellishments can be simple to make or just result in a clean look.  Either way, these embellishments will be helpful in creating a clean and simple card.

Here are some tips I find helpful when creating a simple embellishments:

• Look for ways to simplify or minimize complex embellishments.  For example, instead of including three intricately folding flowers, consider using only one.  Or if the folded flower usually uses three colours, reduce it to one colour or tones of one colour (monochromatic)
• Add embellishments creatively. Try to find ways to use an embellishment in a new way. For example, you could braid strands of baker’s twine to create a simple “rope”.
• Sometimes the easiest way to make an embellishment simple is to isolate it like as I have done in my card below.

First up is a card I created that demonstrates a clean and simple embellishment. With a few punch circles and a pinch of time, you can create this great flower that is perfect for a window card.

TIPS for Folded Petals Card

• Create a template for folding all of the punched circles. This will help you create uniform pieces.
• When adhering the folded pieces to the card, gently place them first (don’t press the adhesive down permanently). If they are lightly adhered, you can reposition them easily. Once placed how you want them, then press the adhesive down firmly.
• There are many parts to this card. However, I would still consider this a Clean and Simple card because the most complex part of the card (the flower) is isolated by the window and the remaining areas of the card are quite “empty.”

DIRECTIONS

1. Punch a 1″ circle out of cardstock.  Fold over 2 sides as shown in the video.  Cut off flaps
2. Using the template created in step 1, punch and fold six 1″ circles out of patterned paper
3. Cut and fold card (15 x 10.5cm) from Crumb Cake CS.  Cut 2 1/2″ circle window in front using circle framelits and bigshot
4. Stamp background using Dictionary stamp set in VersaMark Ink over left side of card as shown
5. Punch outer corners of card using corner rounder, Cut Whisper White CS, 14.2 x 9.8cm and round two right corners.  Adhere to inside of card
6. Adhere the six folded petals inside the circle
7. Tie Bakers twine around the top and bottom of card as shown in the photo.  Draw white dashed lines around the circle window
8. Stamp the greeting onto a scrap piece of cardstock cut out and adhere to the inside of the card.  You’re Done!
