My Top Five go to items to create masculine cards
My Top Five go to items to create Masculine Cards
For some reason, many of us come up with a creative block when it comes to masculine cards, therefore, today I want to share with you my Top five (5) go-to items to Create Masculine Cards
Cardstock
Often the first stumbling block is colour. Colours for guys, especially in clothing, have truly evolved! Check out the men’s clothing department for inspiration. While you are there, take a moment to explore the different patterns in the fabrics. Here are some of my favourite colour combinations for Masculine Cards
Punches & Die Cuts
Punches and die cuts are a fun way to add interest to your projects. Try looking for punches that you can use for a duel purpose. For eg Fox builder punch will be great for a Masculine card but change the colours to soft subtitles and it will also be great for as a baby card. This gives you flexibility and also helps you get the most out of your supplies .
I like to use border punches and the Ticket Tear border punch is perfect to add that interest for a masculine card.
My go-to embossing folders are the Pinewood Planks and Brick wall as these give the outdoor feel to a card. But try using some of the other folders as well and think outside the box. Like Polka Dot Basics and Petal Burst Embossing Folders. When paired with correct colour combination these to will also give you texture for your masculine card
Patterned Paper
Patterned Paper is my first go-to item when creating Masculine projects, and Stampin’ Up! make it so easy for us by providing a Cardstock pack to match their Patterned Paper packs. Currently in the 2017 – 2018 Annual Catalogue there are 3 patterned Paper packs that I like to use for Masculine Cards.
-
- Wood Textures Paper Pack – This pack screams Masculine to me. Those wood textures look amazing
- Coffee Break – and I love the coordinating Cardstock pack as well.
- Pick a Pattern – Took me a while to love this, but the patterns that have been used are great for masculine projects.
Embellishments
Picking embellishments can sometimes be a bit tricking as the go to flower elements and bows will not work here. Try looking for embellishments and ribbon that have a natural feel to them. Buttons are always a favourite of mine. Here is a list of my favourite items from our 2017-2018 Annual Catalogue
-
- Corrugated Elements – try changing the colour by sponging ink over the top
- Hearts & Star Elements
- Touches of Nature elements
- Burlap Ribbon
- Linen Thread
Stamps
I love Background stamps they’re so easy to use and if I can’t find the perfect patterned paper than Background stamps is my next go-to item.
There are not a lot of Masculine Themed stamp sets available in the current Annual Catalogue but my go-to everytime is Lovely as a Tree. This stamp set has been around forever, in fact it has been in every annual catalogue since Stampin’ Up! first opened in Australia back in 2006.
When searching for greetings, look at the fonts. You don’t want curvy fonts for a masculine project, but some nice straight characters are best. For example, the fonts int eh “Guy Greeting” stamp set and “One Wild Ride” are perfect for your masculine project. You can also create your own greeting using the Labeler Alphabet Stamp set
